De-Vice is the first work in the Aperture series. It returns to the core of being, stripping the idea of 'home' back to its most essential elements. A steel frame and ladder lead to a steel volume elevated six meters above the ground, clad in gold inside.
After entering, the participant engages a set of pedals that gradually open the enclosure in opposing directions. The boundary between inside and outside is not removed at once, but slowly displaced, shifting perception from the finite toward the infinite.
The work draws on principles of embodied cognition, where perception is shaped through physical action. By placing control in the body of the participant, De-Vice treats movement as a cognitive act. Through effort, rhythm, and duration, it becomes a tool to refresh one's sense of the universe, reconnecting the individual to a larger, infinite whole.
At night De-Vice becomes a seven meter tall lantern in the landscape.
