“It is not a solution for housing but a solution for not having a house”
In collaboration with mHome, we participated in a tender organized by Cazas Wonen. The client was looking for a design of three portable buildings with a total of 165 residential units. The apartments/studios each had to have 30 m² to 50 m², including a private outdoor area. Important core values in this application were social context and quality of life.
Living together, 3 buildings 1 community
Our design focused on creating a pleasant, liveable neighborhood where people can easily meet each other. Open spaces and well-planned meeting places ensure that residents feel at home and quickly become part of the community. This creates a strong sense of connection. The inviting entrance zones offer a smooth transition between the inner area and the living environment, making the buildings recognizable and accessible. The galleries function as semi-public spaces where residents can meet each other in an informal way. The adjacent balconies strengthen these meeting places and contribute to the sense of community. In addition to the horizontal connections between the homes, voids provide contact between the different floors. This allows residents to also see and greet each other from other floors. This not only promotes social interaction, but also ensures sufficient daylight in the interior spaces.
Portable & durable
The submitted design included three gallery apartment buildings. We opted for 2D prefab HSB elements with prefabricated 3D bathrooms and technical rooms. Ultimately, our design came third out of eight applicants. We are proud to report that we have achieved the maximum score in the field of sustainability and the origin of materials.
