GZC Dampoort is a large health center with two floors, where many healthcare providers come together under one roof. The one-and-a-half-line health center will house a general practice, psychologist, outpatient clinic, pharmacy, dermatologist and many others.
The connecting island at the roundabout
The location is an island where the different streets come together. The building has been cut open and unfolded and follows the building lines of the surrounding buildings. The building is constructed based on healthcare needs and is horizontal in relation to the context. The context is characterized by dark facades with light accents. The health center is two-sided and fits in with the environment and the care function.
Dark shell and light interior
Despite the fact that various healthcare functions are housed, the building feels like a unity. Various functionalities may be felt, but are not literally translated from within. This prevents fragmented mass build-up.
Because of tranquility and “stability”, brick was chosen as the main material.
The exterior, facing the roundabout, has a dark base with light accents, in keeping with the surroundings. The inside has a light base with dark accents, matching the care function because of the calm and light colors. The two brick shades form a light-dark contrast from a distance. Up close, the nuanced nature of the two types of stone becomes increasingly apparent.
An incision has been made in the facade at the roundabout at the waiting area, which reflects the light interior volume. The building consists of a dark shell with a light interior. This light interior is visible where the peel is cut open.
The window openings have their origins in the privacy needs of healthcare.
