In collaboration with mHome, we participated in a tender. The client was looking for a design for 54 movable homes. The apartments/studios each had to have an area of ​​20 m² to 60 m², including a private outdoor area. Important core values ​​in this tender were portability, sustainability and quality of life. 

Connected
Groene Dijk residential area was designed based on an integrated vision in which connectedness and greenery are central. Our aim is to create a living environment that excels in quality, comfort and safety, with plenty of space for social interaction. A place where residents feel at home and where different target groups live together in harmony. 

Living in a natural environment
The natural environment forms the starting point, with the buildings being carefully integrated. Architecture plays a supporting role in this: not dominant, but aimed at creating coherence, recognisability and an individual identity. The combination of four different PMCs and four plot types forms the ideal mix to ensure diversity and identity in the neighborhood. This creates a recognizable and coherent neighborhood, where the connection with the environment is strengthened from a green basis, instead of added greenery.

Architecture as a modest connector
To ensure unity within the neighborhood, a uniform wooden facade finish was chosen instead of maintenance-intensive, colored facades. The natural wooden facades have a soft, light gray tint, which ensures peace, coherence and recognisability in the neighborhood. Within this uniform appearance, horizontal and vertical plank applications alternate, giving individual homes their own character. The facade openings are functionally placed and designed in three calm tones, which contributes to a varied but modest facade image. The gentle roof slopes make it possible to use green roofs.

The community center is located on the edge of the area. Here too, a sloping roof shape has been used to tie in with the connection with the city. Just like the houses, the community center is placed slightly elevated, so that unnecessary groundwork in the area is prevented.

Portable & durable 
The submitted design included 52 homes and a community center room.  We opted for 2D prefab HSB elements with prefabricated 3D bathrooms and technical rooms. 
Ultimately, our design came second out of thirteen applicants.
