Deichtorhallen Kasematten

Deichtorhallen Kasematten

Based on our design and following extensive renovation work carried out by Sprinkenhof GmbH, the Kasematten at Deichtorhallen have become the temporary home of the renowned local club scene venues Beat Boutique and Fundbureau. Both clubs were forced to leave their long-standing locations in the Schanzenviertel due to the construction of the new Sternbrücke railway bridge. The raw industrial architecture of the historic railway vaults provides the clubs with a fitting new home while creating a vibrant new cultural destination for the city of Hamburg.

The site, directly adjacent to the renowned Deichtorhallen, covers approximately 1,000 m². The two separate units provide a combined usable floor area of just under 600 m².

Unlike the grandfathered planning and building rights applicable at the clubs’ former locations, the conversion of the Kasematten had to meet all current requirements for a modern live music venue. These included all applicable energy-efficiency and building physics regulations. As a result, a modern HVAC system was required, incorporating three heat pumps to heat, cool and ventilate the spaces. In addition, the necessary provisions had to be made to ensure compliance with accessibility requirements. The enclosing walls had to meet the acoustic demands of a music club while ensuring compliance with noise emission limits.

To create an authentic appearance that reflects the character of the surrounding area, the visible façades of both clubs were designed by artists Bobbie Serrano, Bona Berlin and Paul Manzey.
