Designer's Atelier

Fran&Co as Interior Architects

Fran&Co’s first Seoul office, the 'Designer’s Atelier,' is a pioneering response to modern office design challenges. By transforming a windowless, budget-constrained space into a vibrant, nature-inspired workplace, this project serves as a model for the future of office environments in Korea, prioritizing employee well-being and creative potential.

Bringing Nature into a Windowless Space

The Designer’s Atelier showcases innovation by addressing the constraints of a windowless office space. Fran&Co used biophilic design principles to evoke a sense of connection to nature, creating an atmosphere of calm and healing without access to natural light. The use of light mint-colored walls, forest-themed wallpaper, and curated artificial plants visually bridges the gap between the indoor environment and the nearby Seoul Botanic Park, extending nature into the workspace. The choice of artificial plants provides a low-maintenance solution while fostering a natural atmosphere. Indirect lighting mimics the soft, diffused light of nature, making the office feel open and inviting.

A Space That Promotes Collaboration and Comfort

Despite the space limitations, Fran&Co achieved a highly functional design that balances aesthetic appeal with usability. The office layout clearly defines areas for work, collaboration, and relaxation. Glass walls and doors, including an entrance engraved with Fran&Co’s logo, create a transparent, open atmosphere that encourages interaction while maintaining privacy when needed. The ergonomic furniture, such as height-adjustable desks and dual monitors, ensures that employees can work comfortably and productively for extended periods.

An Office That Stimulates Imagination

Creativity is woven into every detail of the Designer’s Atelier. The workspace fosters innovation by integrating elements that inspire, such as curated objects and material samples displayed on floating shelves. The lounge, a vibrant yet relaxing space, acts as a hub for creative brainstorming sessions, while the bold use of color accents, like the orange carpet, energizes the space. The juxtaposition of sleek, modern design elements with natural motifs and materials creates a dynamic environment that stimulates imagination and encourages out-of-the-box thinking.

Minimizing Waste and Maximizing Impact

Sustainability is at the heart of the Designer’s Atelier, with thoughtful decisions made to reduce environmental impact. By reusing existing structural elements such as the light mint walls and steel framework hidden behind curtains, Fran&Co minimized material waste and contributed to a circular economy. This eco-conscious approach ensures that the space is not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and cost-effective to maintain and restore in the future. These sustainable choices align with Fran&Co’s philosophy of “making people’s lives beautiful through space” and set a precedent for environmentally responsible urban office design.

Setting a New Standard for Urban Office Design

Fran&Co’s Designer’s Atelier exemplifies how design constraints can fuel innovation, offering a fresh perspective on what an urban office can be. The thoughtful integration of nature, ergonomic functionality, creative elements, and sustainable practices creates a work environment that not only supports productivity but also nurtures the mental and emotional well-being of employees. This project sets a new standard for future office designs, demonstrating that beauty, function, and sustainability can coexist harmoniously in even the most challenging spaces.
