The project is part of the area lift of Stovner Center’s activity park ‘Jesperudjordet for all’. The purpose of the measure is to provide the area with an attraction that is so strong that it can become a destination both in the district and Oslo. The City Environment agency and the City of Stovner wanted the tower to be so high that you could see the sea and it would ideally be universally de-signed. The tower is beautifully located on historical grounds at Fossumberget, as part of the local network of pathways and thus easily accessible. When the project landed on the drawing board of landscape architects in LINK arkitektur, the idea of designing a floating corridor appeared rather than a traditional tower building. The trip up can be experienced as a walk among the tree tops, where couples can take a stroll up high above the ground. The road up the footpath is universally designed and gives a view of Grorud-dalen’s hills, trees and buildings, with the Oslofjord on the horizon.
Platforms along the lane provide space for people to sit together, relax and enjoy the view. The design of the tower is inspired by the bird’s flight into the air where the plateau resembles a bird’s nest, and the pillars that support the runway are placed gently in the terrain. The lacquer poles can reminiscent of branches or tree structures, and are adapted to the ground and existing trees, ensuring that the least possible intervention and damage occur.
The railing has a height of 1.30 meters which gives both real security and an experience of safety. The illumination of the tower emphasizes the concept and the circular motion. It helps the area to be perceived as safe and accessible. Design, material selection and safety are prioritized in the project and bearing structures are placed as smoothly as possible in the terrain.
