Diabetes Australia wanted a workplace that supported its team without over-capitalising on the fitout. Every dollar saved on the build is a dollar that can go back to the people and causes the organisation serves, particularly children. Its new headquarters at Milton Green in Brisbane shows how a restrained budget can still produce a considered workplace.
Amicus worked with the Tenant Representative during due diligence, then partnered directly with Diabetes Australia once it selected the Milton Green precinct. Working with interior designers Rizen Atelier and in close consultation with the CEO, we turned the organisation’s brief into a workplace that is welcoming and purposeful.
Adaptive reuse is central to the approach. Existing elements were retained where they suited the brief, and investment was directed to the areas that carry the most use. At the centre of the plan, a generous kitchen and breakout space serves as the daily gathering point for staff and expands to host organisation-wide town halls. Meeting rooms have integrated AV and acoustic treatments, so presentations and focused conversations work as well as informal collaboration.
The project team included Diabetes Australia, Rizen Atelier, building management JLL, and building owner Shayher. Keeping all parties in regular contact through delivery gave a coordinated process and a result that worked for everyone involved.
The outcome is a warm, functional workplace that gives the team room to connect and collaborate, delivered without drawing funds away from the organisation’s mission. Amicus’s relationship with Diabetes Australia has continued since handover, including support for Pollie Pedal and the Gold Coast Marathon.
