DM1 is a partial apartment renovation project in Sofia, designed for a family with two young children, where old and new coexist effortlessly and in harmony.

Located in a historic building in the wider city center, the apartment comprises a living room, dining room, kitchen, guest toilet, bathroom, and two bedrooms connected by an internal corridor.

The main concept behind the project was to create a highly functional home by optimizing the layout of the built-in furniture while preserving selected authentic elements of the original interior.

The interior is bright and enriched with a variety of textures—exposed brickwork, hardwood flooring, and terrazzo—which, combined with the clean lines of the custom cabinetry, give the apartment a rich yet unobtrusive character.

The entrance hall is defined by a large built-in wardrobe complemented by a series of wall-mounted mirrors. In addition to their practical function, the mirrors visually expand the space and enhance the penetration of natural light.

Situated at the heart of the apartment, the living and dining areas are combined into a single spacious transitional space. It accommodates multiple functions while providing a convenient and seamless connection between the other rooms.

To further enhance the sense of spaciousness in the master bedroom, mirrors have once again been incorporated into the design. Mounted on the built-in wardrobe recessed within a niche, they emphasize the variety of textures and materials in the room while adding visual depth to the space.
