The Donauwörth footbridge aims to provide a functional connection between the city's western and eastern parts.

It goal is to integrate seamlessly with the natural environment, particularly the Kalvarienberg and Schellenberg landscapes. The footbridge embraces the concept of "Genius loci," serves as a symbolic link to the sacred landscape and extends the spiritual essence of the nearby church. Because we integrates paths, a ramp and a bridge, the project encourages contemplation of both the cityscape and the natural surroundings. Therefore, it fosteres self-reflection.

The Donauwörth Footbridge design prioritizes harmony with the environment, seamlessly blending into the existing landscape and facilitating barrier-free access for pedestrians and cyclists between key districts of Donauwörth. Sustainability and resilience principles are incorporated through landscape design, renewable materials, and economic planning.

Addressing the challenge of bridging the height difference between the highway and the western hill, the design focuses on subtle integration into the landscape and harmonization with natural elements. Corten steel, resembling tree trunks, is used for supporting structures and railings, while the bridge surface complements the park paths.

The simplicity and material quality of the Donauwörth Footbridge offer users a unique and high-quality experience. The bridge and ramps provide users with views of the natural surroundings and glimpses of the historic old town, creating a serene atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment. Structurally, the bridge comprises two lateral narrow box girders, with varying heights to meet bending strength requirements. Slender columns resembling tree trunks support the structure, enhancing the overall aesthetic and integration with the natural environment.
