This 62m² apartment has a fully integrated social area, with the main goal of optimizing spaces to make day-to-day activities more functional. As a starting point, we thought of a large suspended piece of furniture separating the living room from the kitchen and at the same time working as a cabinet and panel for the television. From this, we developed the layout and main circulations.
We started from an industrial concept in regards to materials and textures, but we developed a detailed design that brought refinement to the project. The idea was to occupy in a smart way, ensuring flexible spaces and, based on this principle, we integrated the entire social area, making the kitchen a part of it.
The element that marks the project is the cabinetry and wood panel that sectorizes the kitchen and the living room. The kitchen facing side works as a storage space, and the living room facing side as a panel for the TV and still supports a countertop for quick meals. This design consisted of the materialization of the concept of lightness and multifunctionality. In order to emphasize the idea of free space, we developed this completely floating structure.
The biggest challenge was to create a project that followed the principles of breadth that we wanted without compromising generous storage space.
The choice of colours and materials played a fundamental role in the design concept.
The walls, floor tiles and cabinetry all in white and gray end up making room for the other elements, giving it more strength to the texture of the wood when it is present. The choice of perforated metal sheet painted white for some of the cabinet doors and shelves also adds depth without losing the lightness aspect.
The great technical challenge of this project was to ensure the structural support of the cabinetry and wood panel that separates the kitchen from the living room. We made an internal secondary structure. The rigid structure in "L" is fixed directly to the slab and a structural pillar. In addition to the internal structure, the visible metal bars are fixed directly to the slab and are part of a solid rigid assembly, welded on site.
The Apartment Evaso was this client's first apartment project. In his early 30s, the client who is a lawyer wanted the space to be welcoming and inviting for him to entertain friends. From this specific need we chose to transfer the dining table to the balcony, so that it had the privileged view that the apartment has.
When he came to us he brought references of materials that are often associated with the industrial style in architecture. Based on this information, we focused on achieving another atmosphere of this style by refining the details and making the rooms brighter and cozier while keeping the aspect of the materials he liked. This project achieved a cohesive and strong result. There were very few changes from the approval of the concept to the finalization, and we believe that this has played a major role in this result. We perceive APTO Evaso as the materialization of what is the industrial style for Fenda.
In our view, the style does not necessarily incorporate the colours and factory atmosphere as is often seen in interior architecture. In this project we can associate the materials of the industrial style with a refined design, capable of transmitting comfort and warmth.
