Located in a residential area with single-family houses, the old factory has a characteristic image of the other houses that surround it, defined by typical architecture with simple construction elements. The existing buildings are in an advanced state of ruin. However, given the architectural interest of the old factory's volume, we want to restore what is there today. In this way we will rehabilitate the building in its pathologies, reinforce the structure of its walls, repair the roof and ensure the respective finishes. The interior of the old factory will be completely redone. The two floors will be kept at the same level. The lower floor is divided into a kitchen, storage and a large living room. The upper floor will house 3 en-suite bedrooms. The new program is inserted into this old building.

These two constructions confront each other. We don't intend to recreate the interior environment that already existed, not least because the use to which it will be put differs completely from the previous one. Rather, we want it to be easy to distinguish these two moments. The way to do this was to create a “separation” between the buildings, almost as if they weren't touching. In this way, the bedrooms on the upper floor are detached from the exterior walls, which are far apart. The light pours through these divided walls, emphasizing this division, and revealing the new construction that seems suspended, only structured on horizontal metal beams. The exterior of the butter factory will be preserved as it was originally. The volume that serves as the old support bakery is in a state that does not allow for any kind of restoration. Our intention is to preserve its location, volume and formal features. Inside, the program of a small house is divided into two floors.

The lower floor will have a small living room and kitchen, and on the upper floor two bedrooms and a bathroom complete the program. This house is a new intervention. Despite maintaining its layout, volume and gable roof, the façades have a new dynamic with larger openings. The entire building will be clad in wood paneling, making the new construction evident and distinguishing it from the old one, assuming the time in which it was built and in respect for the old factory. The volumes have a very close formal connection and are set in this tranquil landscape, which was intended to remain unchanged in its intrinsic characteristics.
