Fencing Hall

The 610 m2 fencing hall occupies the area of an existing and now disused soccer field located in Bergamo. The existing changing rooms have been renovated and connected with a covered tunnel to the new building. This is a single classroom, covered with a laminated wood structure that supports an insulated sheet sandwich roof that starts from the ground and covers the volume with variable slopes.

The building, designed for fencing, does not require significant internal heights, so it has been designed with an "M" shaped section to reduce the volume to be air conditioned. It was designed by separating the load-bearing structure from the infill structure, this allowed to optimize the insulating capacity of the walls, the curtain wall and the windows. The 20 cm thick sandwich panel that covers the entire structure, thanks to the micro-perforated finish of the ceiling surface, also ensures good sound absorption.

The air conditioning system installed is an all-air type with a direct expansion heat pump with variable volume of refrigerant fluid. The external unit feeds the internal air treatment units that distribute the air in the environment through high induction micro-perforated ducts. The photovoltaic panels for a power of 14kW located on the south side provide much of the energy necessary for the operation of the building.
