Sustainable Home for Emergency Services: Rescue Center in Rudersberg

In Rudersberg, a new shared building is planned for the local volunteer fire brigade and the German Red Cross. We have designed a versatile facility that creates separate courtyards for each organization while carefully integrating the existing topography of the site.

Hybrid Material Concept
In reference to the surrounding natural landscape, the new building—partly designed using timber frame construction—will feature a wooden façade. The vehicle halls are also supported by timber beams and columns. All flat roof areas will be greened and equipped with photovoltaic systems.

The sloping terrain is cleverly utilized by staggering the building volumes, creating different levels for the vehicle halls and the courtyards assigned to the respective users.

Two Uses, One Building
The new facility in Rudersberg will house both the Volunteer Fire Brigade and the German Red Cross (DRK).

The fire brigade will have six vehicle bays plus an additional, separated washing bay.
The DRK hall will provide four vehicle bays.
Each hall is complemented by the necessary ancillary rooms, storage areas, and changing facilities.

Certain parts of the three-story building—such as the training room with kitchen, accessible via a shared foyer—will be used jointly by both organizations.
