Filippo La Mantia's new restaurant in Milan, in Piazza Risorgimento, is much more than a homage to Sicily. It is a modern take on the Sicilian tradition. Filippo's passions - not solely cuisine and wine, but also music, photography, motorbikes - are beautifully rendered in the design of architect and friend, Piero Lissoni. The space extends for 1800 sqm over two floors, allowing guests to find the perfect spot to enjoy a drink, eat, chat, work, relax or have fun together.
The furnishings have for the most part been selected from the collections designed by Piero Lissoni for Cassina, Living Divani and Porro or custom-designed, in addition to iconic pieces from great designers such as Franco Albini and Gerrit Rietveld. In the large living room, a bookcase takes up the whole of one wall and holds not books, but Richard Ginori porcelain and Virginia Casa ceramics, beautifully displayed with some anthropomorphic vases of Caltagirone. The deliberately multi-ethnic atmosphere radiates a Mediterranean airexpressing more than a simple cultural diversity.
