The Fish Market is situated directly on its Arabian city’s old port, using its location as a core element of its design strategy. The site is bordered by a beach and restaurants on one side and a mosque, garden, and public park on the other, reflecting the blend of private and public spaces that is characteristic of the region’s current rapidly-developing urbanism. 

This commercial project seeks to establish an architectural prototype for urban fish markets with a recognizable identity, intended for potential replication in other cities. Designed with the aim of bridging between the regional city character and the maritime life of the seaside market, modular units are assembled to echo an urban grid. 

The internal volumes of the fish market are framed by a double layer of concrete arcades, reminiscent of traditional Islamic architecture, shading a contemporary glass façade. This open double skin generates an external gallery around the market’s main space, while a perforated roof floods the interior with natural light. The arcade not only functions as a practical shaded circulation element but also serves as the Fish Market’s urban signature, with a fluid space that encourages movement and interaction internally and externally.
