Designed by Zalc Arquitetura, the 100 m² apartment located in Perdizes neighborhood, in São Paulo, Brazil, was developed in 2024 for a creative and free-spirited couple, reflecting both the residents' identity and the architects' authorial vision. From the outset, the clients had clear priorities: an open connection between the kitchen, terrace, and living area; an ensuite master bathroom; and custom solutions — including a dedicated space for Rocco, the family pet, built into the kitchen island with a filtered water station.
With a contemporary industrial aesthetic, the project adopts black and blue as its dominant colors. Hydraulic tiles, crafted through a traditional artisanal process, take center stage in the entrance hall — nicknamed "the pool" — and reappear in other spaces such as the powder room, master bathroom, and headboard. Materials like burnished concrete flooring and black joinery panels with milled patterns were used to balance textures and create a harmonious, functional aesthetic.
Layout interventions included reducing the guest bathroom to enlarge the powder room and entrance hall, as well as integrating the terrace into the living area and the master bathroom into the bedroom. A standout feature is the island sofa in the living room — designed exclusively by the studio — with movable modules that allow for different configurations. The powder room, fully clad in hydraulic tiles, functions almost as a playful installation and draws attention for its meticulous attention to detail.
The project also incorporates technical innovations, such as a wall-mounted urinal in the master bathroom supported by a metal column, and a built-in stainless steel niche in the kitchen that can be concealed when not in use. Landscaping was thoughtfully integrated throughout, with tropical plants composing the suspended shelving unit in the living room and making a statement in the bathroom as well.
With signature design pieces and suppliers including Dalle Piagge, Cremme, and Vital Oficina, the project by Zalc Arquitetura exemplifies the application of bespoke, functional solutions developed through a collaborative process with the residents.
