Who is the client? Do they want to be featured? Are they noteworthy, celebrity, high profile? Are they willing to be photographed and/or in publication?
The clients are a couple from Boston, who use the lakehouse as their vacation home with their children and extended family.
Description
The home is approximately 1200 SF, containing three levels. The master bedroom and bath are contained in the lofted area above the open concept living and dining. Additional bedrooms and living areas were added in the lower level of the home, where we created a full bath, laundry, and utility room. The entry features custom cabinetry and a 3 bath.
Significance of the projects. (Panoramic views, modern, traditional, etc). What makes the project interesting?
This home was built in the 1980s on Lake Seneca in Becket, MA. It is perched on a peninsula with water on 3 sides.
The home was significantly outdated, with heating and electrical issues. The interior featured dark wood paneling throughout and wall-to-wall carpeting. We did a gut renovation of the whole house, which inlcuded a redesign of the master loft area, basement rooms and an extensive renovation of the kitchen. We added a pantry and a ¾ bathroom. Radiant heat was added throughout the house and the paneling was replaced with sheetrock. Hardwood floors were installed throughout the main level of the home.
Is there some historical relevance of the project?
Yes, this property was designed after the original Buckminster Fuller geodesic domes.
Any high-tech or other interesting features?
Radiant heat throughout which was very necessary with this type of construction and vaulted ceilings.
What did you want to accomplish with this project?
We aimed to give the home a complete modern facelift that allowed the architecture of the home to shine. The renovation brightened the space, added valuable usable space in the mudroom, master loft, walk-in closet, kitchen and pantry area. The home has ample open space for family gatherings and away space for friends and family to come and stay.
