At the corner of Martinsbruggstrasse and Schuppisstrasse in St. Gallen, on the site of Emil Egger AG, a new office building has been constructed.
The existing office building no longer met current requirements in terms of functionality and spatial capacity, which led to the realization of a contemporary replacement.
GFT Fassaden AG was not only responsible for the façade design but also acted as the client together with Emil Egger AG—an interplay that significantly shaped the implementation of this project. The site, located within a commercial and industrial zone, provided an ideal setting for a contemporary interpretation of urban working environments.
With its sculptural presence, the building strengthens the urban structure of the surroundings and establishes a distinctive gateway to Schuppisstrasse. Set back thoughtfully from the street, a clearly defined forecourt emerges—an arrival space that integrates generously into the public realm. A cantilevered gesture at ground-floor level creates a covered entrance situation that not only offers shelter but also subtly stages the dialogue between interior and exterior.
The new building radiates a calm, confident elegance. As a corner point and identity-defining element of the Schuppis site, the façade reinterprets the industrial past of the location with contemporary refinement: ribbon windows rhythmically structure the surfaces, while vertical façade cladding generates a fine, almost textile texture.
The materiality possesses a tangible depth: parapet bands made of ventilated terracotta capture the light, shift with changing weather conditions, and lend the building a vibrant, tactile quality. Finely detailed metal windows, precisely set window sills, and exact roof-edge finishes complete the interplay of clarity and precision. A building that not only creates space, but also atmosphere—an architectural statement of lasting presence.
