Government of Dubai Media Office

Bluehaus Group as Architects

Deriving from the client’s brief is was clear that The Government Media Office was looking for something unique, a space that is a representation of Dubai, UAE.

The major idea steamed from one big idea, - “What is home for you?”

Dubai is home to a huge demographic of people, with many different traditions / cultures, but one main thing in common. We have all created our home within Dubai. A space that is always welcoming, comfortable, cozy and most of all filled with friends and family. A space we can create memories, have laughs, be mindful and just feel at home.

This is what our main design intent for The Government Media Office (GDMO) is all about. Building a home from scratch, creating‘A Castle in the Sand’.

The Government Media Office is located on one entire floor in One Central in Financial Center. The Brief called for a one of a kind creative space that isaligned with the client’s requirements. The space houses a large reception area that is adaptable to allow for large events, a conference hall, boardroom, members club, a library, a ladies salon, a majlis, many activation spaces, collaboration areas, a work café, recording studio and a large Media Control Room which manages all the media released in UAE.

The entire space is designed to create inspiring homey spaces.’Inspiring spaces drive inspiring ideas’, the space is created to stimulate the imagination and creativity by not only challenging the task at hand but by its surroundings. Our goal is to create an environment that triggers innovative thinking by adding element of discovery through the journey from one functional area to another.

As you can see the layout has been designed to create pockets of pen space to nestle departments with out the requirement for built-up partitions and allowing for an open and free flowing space.Circular windows have been located in closed meeting rooms and office to allow for transparency and incoming natural daylight.

Materials used within this project play huge role in achieving the atmosphere within the space. We purposefully selected finishes that had a visual reference to our home context, which is Dubai, UAE. Colors follow a pallet of beige, browns, white and some black accents All finishes have been inspired by UAE’slandscape (its deserts and beaches) along with traditional building materials and architecture. We have translated the selection of finishes in a contemporaryway that resonates from past to our present and future.
