The winery is located in an agricultural area in Passopisciaro, in Castiglione di Sicilia, characterized by the typical Etna rural landscape with vineyards. The new building is an extension of the existing winery historically owned by Graci’s family. It’s hypogeum, solid and compact. The main façade is oriented towards the vineyard. It disappears into the ground without colliding with the historical one; boulders of black lava rocks are located partially covering the entrance as material of excavation. The building is dissolved into the skyline without creating any contraposition with the historical winery. The idea is to create symmetry between the embankment and the open field facing south. The symmetry line is emphasized by the staircase and the water drainage. A recess excavated in the rock shows the stratigraphy of the terrain under the vineyard, representing also the tasting area.
