Graci winery

ACA Amore Campione Architettura as Architects

The winery is located in an agricultural area in Passopisciaro, in Castiglione di Sicilia, characterized by the typical Etna rural landscape with vineyards. The new building is an extension of the existing winery historically owned by Graci’s family. It’s hypogeum, solid and compact. The main façade is oriented towards the vineyard. It disappears into the ground without colliding with the historical one; boulders of black lava rocks are located partially covering the entrance as material of excavation. The building is dissolved into the skyline without creating any contraposition with the historical winery. The idea is to create symmetry between the embankment and the open field facing south. The symmetry line is emphasized by the staircase and the water drainage. A recess excavated in the rock shows the stratigraphy of the terrain under the vineyard, representing also the tasting area.

ACA Amore Campione Architettura has been found in the 2010 by Sebastiano Amore and Angela Maria Campione, in Catania. The studio joins the architectural theory with the continuous research of experimentation, developed from the beginning works. The experience raised from renowned Italian firms collaboration has allowed to develop management skills in complex projects but also a sensitivity towards the small architectural realities. The studio took part in many international design competitions, reaching awards and achievements. In 2012 it was one of the finalist in Young Italian Architects and selected in the collection 30 <40 among the 30 most interesting Sicilian firms. In 2013 the studio was ranked third in the NIB Award and in 2015 it was recommended for the Quadranti di Architettura and won the Bellini award. In 2019 he won the national Dedalo Minosse award in the under 40 category.
