A room in a 20-year-old apartment.
The resident is a single woman in her 50s who lives with two cats.

While the unit has a floor area of 62 m2 and is well lit from three sides,
the existing layout was composed of small 2LDK rooms and a corridor connecting them, with some spaces not being used effectively and some rooms turned into warehouses, making it difficult to feel spacious or connected.
A sophisticated renovation was required to revamp these and make longer stays at home more comfortable.

In order to eliminate unnecessary functions and carefully reconstruct the necessary space,
the plumbing, which could not be moved far from the existing PS and piping route, was moved to one side of the apartment, and the rest was made into a large 1LDK space with no corridor.
In addition to the physical expansion, the intention was to create a visual expansion to the outside by viewing the windows, which had previously been interrupted by partition walls, from all inside the apartment.

To make the space as spacious as possible, the ceiling made use of the exposed concrete of the existing structure, and to match its rough texture, the floor was finished with large tiles with a concrete-like texture, and the walls were finished with wood wool cement boards made of wood fiber solidified with cement components.

At the boundary with the bathroom and bathroom, we built a partition wall like a door and window by installing oak veneer panels where we wanted to block the view, and tempered glass where we wanted to connect.

For the waist-high furniture installed around the windows to ensure storage space, the movable closet furniture to gently separate the bedroom, and the large island-style kitchen counter, which was laid out so that it could be used for a cooking class in the future, we used frames of the same dimensions as the partition wall pillars to create an overall sense of unity.

Parts of the furniture doors were covered with rattan to ensure ventilation, and hemp rope was wrapped around the vertical pipes that passed through the kitchen counter, which could not be moved.
