The original building was constructed in 1934 by A. Sharon and A.Polchek as a private residence for the Kinderman Family. The Florentine area has a unique building typology that combine retail ground floor with two living stories above, this building is part of the local typology.
The project was planned under the national outline plan 38/1 that allow an addition of stories to an existing building as a tool of sustainable urban renewal that deals with the ongoing demand for space in the inner cities.
The project approach is sustainable intervening that uses the infrastructure and creates a different mix of living to attract a wide socio-economic background that enhances the urban experience.
The idea behind the project was to highlight the horizontal lines and the positioning as a corner of the original building, although adding two full stories and another setback story. This was done by extending and creating subdivision of the front balconies that creates a dialog of volumes and enhancing the horizontal lines. Furthermore, mixing façade materials that enhance the original geometry of the rounded corner of the building.
