The center promotes wonder and exploration into nature, developing a sense of stewardship towards community and environment . A series of open and covered porches and exhibition/learning spaces open out into the wetlands, linking the observer directly with nature.
Light filled classrooms with operable fritted windows allow for natural ventilation, utilizing the adjacent bodies of water to cool the desert air. The rammed earth walls are constructed from soil on site, the project celebrates a local aesthetic and a specific environmental understanding.
The center is focused on human experience, grounded in place and inspired by craft. Creating a sense of being within, and fully engaged with your own existence in nature. The community is allowed to explore how our presence is intertwined with both wildlife and the natural world around.
