DESIGN OF THE VERTICAL INTERVAL
This is a double house with an extra flat. Host’s main household is two-storied and two flats are double-decked; one for elderly couple and the other for rent. The second floor has a vertical interval which makes several areas in a tiny room and vaguely leads the inhabitants to follow the space intended. This floor was shown directly to the downstairs and the floor interval becomes the ceiling height interval-Lower one for alcove of a dining space and the higher one for a lounge. Simple ONE operation defines the characters of Two areas at the same time. A corridor of the second floor has a skylight above and translucent (honeycomb polycarbonate panel) floor below to conduct natural light to downstairs.
