The complete renovation of a duplex apartment for a family (parents and two children of school age) had the aim of interpreting and integrating residential spaces with working ones.
The plan of the house is free from the pillars, given the structure in reinforced concrete walls and beams of the building: an 8-storey slat from the late 1970s, moderately _brutalist_ in the architectural language.
The upper, last level of the building is the residential one and develops the living theme of the equipped house, integrating the design of the furnishings and their functions in the distribution of spaces, even replacing the partitions.
Having eliminated the hallway spaces, the necessary distribution passages are open and functionalized with the aim of giving the maximum perceptive and usable value to the living area, center of gravity between the rooms to the north and the terrace to the south, towards which it opens with a sliding window. of about 7 meters.
The systems are integrated into the designed space: underfloor heating; the conditioning placed in the furniture; indirect linear lighting hidden in special recesses.
The children's rooms, identical and mirrored, are organized following the height of the desk (75 cm), and according to a principle of maximum functionality, as in a boat, with bed / container with drawers, steps / cabinets, cabinet / locker.
A black and coplanar equipped system, consisting of double-faced containers / cabinets and portals / doors, separates the north / bedroom front from the south / day front, running under the main beam of the house and forming the spine of the same.
Central to the living area is the staircase that connects the two levels, whose compartment is integrated into a multifunctional furnished island; with the aim of transforming a passive space into an active occasion.
Among the materials present the main ones are the poplar plywood of the furnishings, in the natural and black finishes, the natural iron, the oak of the floors, the concrete of the building structure, the cement-resin of the bathrooms; used, in the design intention, with the same sincerity as belonging to the building.
The lower level, in addition to being an extension of the residential one, is dedicated to music production with a live shooting room and a recording studio, with acoustic installations consistent with the domestic context.
