Located in the heart of Los Angeles’ Silver Lake neighborhood, Hotel Lucile by Casett a Hotels has been reimagined by architecture and interior design studio Electric Bowery. The project was inspired by the spirit of Peggy Guggenheim, welcoming eclectic creatives to a haven where art and conversation fl ourish in a 'salon' atmosphere. Housed in an old church built in 1931, the hotel’s transformation honors its architectural origins while imbuing the space with the warmth and intimacy of boutique hotel design.
At the core of the redesign is a celebration of that European sensibility, woven into every aspect of the design. Walking through the hotel feels like stepping into a diff erent era, evoking a familiar charm. Electric Bowery approached this balance with a nod to European-style courtyards, the heart of many iconic buildings. The pool courtyard at Hotel Lucile off ers a communal space where greenery, preserved architectural details, and inviting furnishings create the perfect backdrop for relaxation. There is a hidden-garden feel, right in the middle of the city.
At the heart of the hotel is the awe-inspiring cathedral space, where soaring ceilings and restored stained glass windows evoke a sense of grandeur. Electric Bowery’s design embraces the scale and drama of the space, with awe-inspiring commissioned murals by Erin Lynn Welsh, curated through Uprise Art, adding a contemporary artistic layer to the historic architecture. Upon entry, a grand central bar with oversized arches, inspired by the cathedral’s form, welcomes guests, sett ing the tone for the experience. Here, 25-foot curtains frame the room, which can be drawn back to reveal the main dining area, where custom banquett es nestle into alcoves along the nave, bordered by an arched colonnade.
For more intimate moments, guests can retreat to the moody choir loft, a secluded hideaway from the more social atmosphere of the main cathedral space. It's the perfect spot for a quiet moment or a more intimate gathering—an intentional contrast to the grand social areas below. Throughout the hotel, jewel-toned stained-glass windows are restored and replicated to amplify the building’s historic charm.
The guest rooms are laid-out around a central courtyard, designed to create a sense of escape within the urban environment. These rooms refl ect the existing old-world charm with steel windows, narrow plank original wood fl ooring, and thoughtfully curated and custom furnishings. The restrooms stayed classic, with subway tile, intricate tiling details, and timeless plumbing fi xtures that echo a luxurious, yet understated, style. Lighting design plays a crucial role in shaping the overall atmosphere, with fi xtures from Gallery L7 and O’lampia featured throughout the property, while a custom lamp collaboration with Kassandra Thatcher lends a distinctive touch to the restaurant.
