This luxurious family home in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, is designed for a Sikh family, seamlessly blending elegance with tradition. The residence showcases a Royal English theme, featuring a bold black-and-white palette that exudes timeless sophistication and charm. Client Brief
The client approached us with a clear yet open-ended brief. They envisioned a home that resonated with their deep love for nature, providing a sense of calm and serenity. The emphasis was on creating a space that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing, with a focus on minimalism and natural materials. The client gave us the creative liberty to design the space as long as it aligned with the overarching themes of nature, simplicity, and modern living. The home was to be a sanctuary, a place to unwind and relax, yet practical for daily life.

Design Style
The design style employed can be described as a harmonious blend of minimalism and bohemian modern. Minimalism was key to ensuring the space felt uncluttered and peaceful, while the bohemian influence added a layer of warmth and personality through textured fabrics, plants, and artisanal touches. This fusion of styles creates a sophisticated yet cozy environment, allowing each piece to breathe while offering moments of visual interest.

Inspirations and Key Concepts
Nature served as the primary inspiration for this project. From the textures of natural wood to the earthy color palette, every detail was thoughtfully selected to evoke a sense of groundedness and connection to the outdoors. The use of organic materials like rattan, jute, and linen further emphasized this connection. Biophilic design principles guided the process, incorporating natural light, greenery, and a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The overarching concept was to create a peaceful retreat within the urban setting, offering a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Spatial Configuration
The spatial configuration focused on open-plan living, promoting flow and connectivity between spaces. The living room, dining area, and kitchen were designed as one continuous space, enhancing the feeling of openness. Large windows were incorporated to maximize natural light and bring the outdoors in, blurring the lines between the interior and exterior spaces. The bedrooms were kept more private, with each room being a personal retreat, reflecting the individual tastes of its occupants. The master bedroom, for example, features softer tones and minimalist furniture, whereas the guest room introduces subtle bohemian patterns and textures.

Challenges and Setbacks
The primary challenge in this project was balancing minimalism with the bohemian aesthetic without the design feeling either too sparse or too eclectic. It took careful planning and curation of materials, textures, and accessories to ensure the right balance. Another setback was with the initial contractor meetings; aligning the construction timelines with the delivery of custom furnishings required some adjustments, leading to slight delays. We also encountered issues with the sourcing of certain natural materials, particularly the large slabs of stone and specific types of wood that were integral to the design. These delays required close collaboration between the project supervisor, contractors, and vendors to adjust timelines and ensure the project continued smoothly.

Construction Techniques and Materials
The construction techniques focused on sustainable building practices, minimizing waste and using eco-friendly materials wherever possible. The principal materials included natural wood, exposed concrete, rattan, and jute. Walls were kept neutral to act as a canvas for the various textures and design elements. The use of natural stone for countertops and flooring also played a vital role in achieving the desired organic aesthetic. Regular contractor and supervisor meetings were held to keep the project on track. The timeline for the project was initially six months, but due to delays in sourcing materials, it extended by another month. However, these challenges were managed effectively to avoid compromising the design’s integrity.

Use of Colors and Details
The color palette was a thoughtful curation of earthy tones, muted greens, soft whites, and hints of terracotta. These colors not only complement the natural materials used but also create a calming atmosphere throughout the space. Each room has subtle variations in the color scheme to reflect its function and mood, but the entire house maintains a cohesive feel.
