The design draws inspiration from stained glass – a visual motif deeply rooted in the city's architectural heritage, often seen in traditional staircases and carved wooden balconies. “Stained glass is part of Tbilisi’s visual language,” explains Shushana Khachatrian, founder of STUDIO SHOO. “It’s decorative, expressive and full of individuality – just like the city itself.”

Housed in a beautifully restored building in Old Tbilisi, the hotel retains original features including a cast-iron spiral staircase, turquoise wooden balconies, and traditional stained-glass windows. Inside, the public areas feature light-toned walls and sculptural forms, punctuated by playful details: a bright yellow lounge seat, plant-filled vases inspired by Georgian design, and a two-level reception desk designed for accessibility.

In the guest rooms, a bespoke carpet inspired by traditional Georgian mosaics sets the tone, complemented by wave-shaped headboards, spherical lamps, and graffiti-style pouffes. A standout feature is the stained-glass window between the bedroom and bathroom – allowing sunlight to cast a vibrant play of colours throughout the space.

Most of the furniture was crafted by Georgian artisans, reinforcing the hotel’s commitment to local craftsmanship. “Our goal was to create a space that feels both welcoming and distinctly Georgian – a dialogue between guests and the city,” says Khachatrian.

More than just a place to stay, ibis Styles Old Tbilisi offers an immersive way to experience the city’s character – colourful, creative, and full of soul.
