IKIGAI, the Japanese word that epitomizes the connection between what we are, what we do and what we love, is the name A I M has chosen for its new interior design project: from an unused attic to a tribute of elegance and comfort.
Beginning with the existing structure, the design studio has addressed two phases: structural renovation with the attic's restoration, and the architectural project itself. Inspired by Japanese aesthetics, with clean lines and sensual shapes, A I M makes use of colours and materials to emphasise contrast and give the rooms a unique character. The living and sleeping areas are divided by a partition covered with cement finish - brushstrokes punctuated by frames, reminiscent of a modern-day Byōbu.

In the living area, freestanding furnishings dominate, dramatized by the scenic backdrop of the light-coloured kitchen in the background. A long corridor leads to the sleeping area, with high wood panelling and the newly renovated dividing partition, which here takes on the function of a permanent wardrobe.

Comfort and flexibility are accentuated and never sacrificed by virtue of elegance, indeed they dialogue with shapes and the surroundings to create a space where actions, thoughts and passions converge and find their ideal setting.
