Ilê Omi by Noipê
Ilê Omi or House of Waters in Yoruba, an ancestral African language, is the official bar of Casa Cor Ribeirão Preto 2024.
It's a love letter to the yabas of the waters: Yemanjá, Oxum and Nanã, and a reverence for our Afro-descendant ancestry. As well as being a space for meetings and celebrations, it is also a place for contemplation. A gallery with various works of art by Candomblecist and Umbanda artists, craftspeople and designers. Works such as the sculpture Banho de Pipoca (Popcorn Bath) by designer Pedro Galaso, the watercolour Ancestralidade (Ancestrality) by Augustinho and the work Encanto by Nathalia Faria (a Marp prize-winner) are just some of the pieces on display. Umbanda architect Victor Poiani designed the project together with designer Bete Said, who is presenting her first collection, the Nagô Collection.
Nagô Collection
Brazilian designer Bete Said is exhibiting her pieces at the official bar of Casa Cor Ribeirão Preto, Ilê Omi por Noipê.
Inspired by her Afro-descendant ancestry and her black and enslaved ancestors, the collection celebrates the trajectory of an entire people who fought for survival.
The collection pays tribute to their past generation and their dreams.
The pieces that make up the collection are:
Ancestral Pendant, (Inheritance) a handmade ceramic pendant lamp that represents the legacy passed down from generation to generation through dishes that seek balance and their place in a racist and prejudiced society. A tribute to their black ancestors and their quest for respect, dignity and a voice.
Axé Chairs and Stools, ( Força ) in carbon steel and contemporary design.
Representing the strength and power of nature through faith, they also recall affective memories with the use of ‘spaghetti’, siliconised cord woven into the seat and backrest, used in old models of lounger chairs.
Madre (Mother) Side Tables are made of carbon steel and have an organic shape.
They represent the mother, the lap and nature by their shapes and by receiving a metal cup (son) with an inlaid neodymium to place foliage and plants, also incorporating the concept of biophilia into the piece.
Ilê Aiyê Vases and Tray, (House) in soapstone and leather handles.
They represent our home, our land, our link with the place that welcomes us.
