JEP 1 on Joachim-Erwin-Platz in Düsseldorf is precisely positioned within the urban fabric: the curved façade echoes the eaves heights of the neighbourhood and deliberately opens up new views of the Düsseldorf Theatre. In direct dialogue with the neighbouring projects by ingenhoven associates – in particular Kö-Bogen II – the building reinforces the urban structure and sets a contemporary tone in the city centre.
As a new building at one of the city's busiest transport hubs, JEP 1 pursues a clear functional and design approach. The street-side shell forms a double-shell façade: prefabricated elements made of aluminium and wood on the inside, a translucent layer of steel and glass on the outside. Aluminium and wooden elements combined with a green façade face the courtyard. The green inner courtyard with garden establishes a local microclimate and supports natural ventilation.
Consistently following the supergreen® principles, the project combines efficient building physics with contemporary aesthetics. A double façade, integrated green structures and natural ventilation tailored to the building's use reduce energy requirements and increase the quality of the indoor environment. An inviting main entrance combines address, access and impact in the urban space.
