The Pangyo branch of Juno Hair, one of Korea’s leading hair salon brands, is located inside a multi-complex shopping mall. Pangyo is home to many IT companies, and much of the city carries an image associated with digital and technological industries. In this context, the Juno Hair brand aimed to convey relaxation, comfort, and tranquility—values that contrast with digital elements.

The salon is located at the end of an alley within the mall, and because its entrance is always in shade, it required a strategy to attract the attention of customers. Inside, the salon features large south-facing windows that allow natural light to flood deep into the space. However, in a hair salon—where color is crucial—it was necessary to block excessive sunlight. To address this, we placed functional rooms along the south-facing windows to block natural light from entering the main space, and instead installed a central lighting box that allowed us to control light artificially. Through this lighting box, the salon could be spotted from a distance, while also maintaining consistent illumination at all times.

The entrance of the salon was pushed back from its original boundary to create room for a bench, and folding windows were installed at the front so that, on pleasant days, the interior and exterior could be connected and interact. This design created a more open and leisurely entrance, functioning as a transitional space.

Inside, the salon uses primarily white finishes to create a clean and bright atmosphere, with selective use of stone to evoke an Eastern sensibility. The goal was for the salon to be perceived as a place of rest within a digital city.
