K-house with a view of the sea

This house is located in a residential area sloping to the east. It was planned for parents and two children to live with grandparents near future. The site is open to the east and supposed to commands a view of the Seto Inland Sea at the level of the second floor. Demands of the client were: to be a house to which the children want to come back after their independence, to give a feeling of enjoying life together with all the family, to be ready to live with grand-parents in a few years, to make kitchen, laundry and bathroom roomy, light and efficiently-placed.

Considering all those, I proposed a structure with a big attic open to the eastern sea based on the first floor facing the south. The first floor is a usual flat space conveniently designed, getting enough sunlight. By contrast the second floor is an unusual space covered with a primitive gable roof, and breeze and light runs up from the sea into the attic along the wall. On the former a plain light and a comfortable breeze of the Seto Inland climate fill the space, on the latter a wind running up under the eaves and a light reflecting the sea do so.

The roof of the second floor is constructed by joining triangle frames which makes the depth of the space and the structural stability, under which you can have such a sense of release as in a traditional Japanese house.
