In the heart of Genoa’s historic center, among slate rooftops and bell towers, an apartment is reimagined through the philosophy of “Kaizen”, as a process of gradual, targeted transformations.
The project reinterprets the fragmentation of historic spaces into a sequence of connected environments, where thresholds, openings, and architectural devices — such as internal windows, pass-through furnishings, and a concrete-effect masonry bench — create visual and functional continuity, in dialogue with the terrace overlooking the narrow streets.
Materiality plays a central role: white Carrara marble, blue Fenix, Italian herringbone oak flooring, and hexagonal cement tiles define a minimalism rooted in tradition yet reinterpreted in a contemporary way.
Private areas take on a more intimate character. The main bathroom, with Moroccan references, is organized around an arched alcove as a ritual space, while the bedroom, conceived as a suite, integrates furnishings and functions into a unified system.
The project balances memory and contemporaneity, shaping a continuous, luminous, and conscious living space.
