Kamenoi Besso

Renovation project of this ryokan started back in Spring, 2015 and is still in progress. The ryokan offers 20 guest rooms that are located in 39,670m2 site. This particular project was a part of the renovation project, renovationg a building which was originally built in the 1930s into a Villa. 

It was extremely difficult to plan and renovating the building since it requited a restoration in a major way and renovating the interior into a more modern lifestyle appropriate.

The roof was also replaced with the traditional thatch roof. It is mainly thatched and added a with cedar bark as a final finish.

 

Material Used:
1. Facade cladding: Painted walls with earth. Cedar planking
2. Flooring: American black walnut flooring (floor heating specification), some tatami mats and Wilton carpet 
3. Doors: Glass lattice door (wood)
4. Windows: Wooden glass door (with paired glass)
5. Roofing: Kaya-shitaji Sugikawabuki (cedar bark thatching)
6. Interior lighting: All lighting is built-in except for downlights
7. Interior furniture: Fredericia and Carl Hansen, Denmark
