The homeowners wanted a space that was elegant and sophisticated but yet still friendly for her small children to play in.
Some key challenges were that the contractor initially engaged to renovate the home did not follow what we (at Kalu Interiors) and the client wanted. There were many things that were done wrong that added to the lead time of the project. We ended up switching to one of the contractors with who we typically work with to help fix some mistakes and undertake the construction of the basement spaces. The main part of the project took just over a year to complete.
Stone was used extensively in the bathrooms. In the principal ensuite, Arabescato marble adorns the shower and vanity areas and is paired with a large format tile that adds a sense of drama and contrast. A white Terrazzo look tile combined with a fun mint subway tile characterize the kids bathroom. In the Kitchen, Dekton was preferred for its durability and style.
The main floor tile floor and fireplaces were actually kept as original because they were neutral enough and still in very good condition.
