KMP HOUSE

Located in a residential tower in Balmumcu, Istanbul, overlooking the Bosphorus and the city’s iconic skyline, KMP House occupies a 320-square-metre apartment with a four-bedroom layout.
Although the building had recently been completed when the design team became involved, the apartment required a comprehensive transformation in terms of both spatial organization and material expression. The previously fragmented living areas were reconfigured into a more fluid and interconnected layout. Beginning at the entrance, continuity was established between the dining area, living room, and shared spaces, while spatial boundaries were defined through furniture placement and material transitions rather than fixed partitions.

The clients envisioned a warm, contemporary home that would support everyday living while offering a welcoming atmosphere for family life. In response, the design was conceived around a fluid spatial scenario that accommodates both large family gatherings and social occasions. Seating, dining, and bar functions were carefully integrated within the shared areas, enhancing the home’s social potential and encouraging interaction.
The anonymous character typically associated with residential tower interiors was reinterpreted to reflect the clients’ lifestyle and daily routines, giving the apartment a distinctive identity. The design concept was driven by the ambition to combine the comfort of a luxury hotel with the warmth and intimacy of a private home.

A refined and holistic material palette was developed throughout the project. Large-format porcelain surfaces were selected for the communal areas, while light-toned timber flooring was introduced in the private spaces to create a warmer atmosphere. Neutral, warm hues define the overall palette, enriched by subtle variations in texture and surface finish that add depth and visual layering. The interplay between natural stone and timber details creates a sophisticated balance while reinforcing the tactile quality of the interior.
The overall design language can be described as a form of softened modern luxury- an understated approach that favours quiet sophistication over ostentation. Clean contemporary lines are balanced with warm materials and carefully considered details, resulting in an interior that feels both elegant and genuinely livable.

Several bespoke built-in elements play a defining role in shaping the identity of the project. In particular, the custom-designed timber storage unit and integrated bar within the dining area serve as both functional features and strong spatial focal points.
Art was considered an integral part of the design from the outset. Bringing together works from different artistic disciplines, the collection introduces an additional cultural layer that enriches the interior and completes the overall spatial composition.
