Located in the Bodrum Kaplankaya complex, this detached summer house has been reinterpreted by Habif Architecture to offer a serene and balanced living space.
Redesigned by Habif Architecture, the interior of the Kaplankaya E House is situated in harmony with the rocky terrain, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Aegean coast. Maintaining its existing architectural line with large terraces and expansive glass façades, the interior layout of the house has been reimagined to offer a tranquil and harmonious living environment.
Designed for a family of four, the residence offers 320 m² of enclosed living space and 1200 m² of landscaped area. Spread horizontally and on different levels, the home consists of three main floors. The main structure was preserved while the interior was designed to adhere to the perception of natural light, orientation, and spatial openness, in a way that adapts to the homeowners' dynamic and flexible lifestyle.
This approach directly influenced the selection and design of the furniture. The balance and simplicity between functionality and aesthetics are not merely a stylistic choice but a reflection of the residents' lifestyle. In addition to built-in furniture, movable pieces from brands like Tacchini, Miniforms, and Santa Cole were selected, while outdoor spaces predominantly feature products from Dedon, Ethimo, and Ligne Roset.
In the dining area, a wall was designed as a small-scale art feature, clad in silver travertine with matching pedestals. In front of this, a specially designed table from the same marble was placed. To continue the modern aesthetic of the house, a Santa-Cole Lámina 165 lighting fixture was used above the table, complemented by &tradition’s Betty chairs.
Another inspiration for the project was to remove partitions that obstruct daylight, revealing the structure’s inherent natural relationship with light. With this intervention, surfaces shaped by the simplicity of white gained a graceful elegance, inviting light inward. Completed with marble details, this space became a functional and aesthetic small-scale art wall.
Adjacent to the art wall, the central high-ceilinged section of the living area was designed as a focal point where natural light leaves its mark throughout the day. In this space, an artwork by Ercan Akın interacts with light on the wall, accompanied by the Tacchini-designed Five to Nine bench, Tom Dixon’s Press Large Surface lighting fixtures, and custom-made coffee tables, creating a refined corner for relaxation at any time of day.
The children’s rooms on the lower floor were designed with modular systems, allowing for flexible sleeping arrangements—together or separate. The electrical infrastructure and lighting elements were positioned not only for a fixed setup but also to support various room configurations. As a result, the rooms can easily be repurposed according to users' needs.
In the master bedroom, simplicity and functionality stand out in the details. Dominated by light tones, the space features custom-designed beds and nightstands, harmonizing with the interior architecture. The nightstands, topped with marble and integrated with power outlets and USB ports, cater to daily needs while enriching the space with material sophistication. A featured artwork on the headboard wall, placed against a warm wooden surface, serves as a visual focal point that enhances the room’s calm atmosphere.
Project team members Uğur Mendi, Berna Suyabatmaz, and Seren Çırpan from Habif Architecture describe the design as “a living space representing elegance born of simplicity.” With its modern and minimalist lines, the Kaplankaya E House becomes a timeless interior concept—harmonizing with daily life, balanced in material and light, and enriched by thoughtful details.
