Kwsa – The world’s largest Kinetic Wall

Kwsa is a 209-square-meter kinetic wall at Aramco’s VVIP Center in Riyadh, consisting of six 6x7 meter sections. The system integrates 20,000 stepper motors, each controlled by a cross-shaped PCB embedded in the chassis.

Movement is achieved through a high-helix lead screw and a lever system, optimizing mechanical efficiency while reducing component count. Self-lubricating technopolymer parts ensure silent operation and eliminate lubrication requirements. The system is designed for front-access assembly and maintenance.

Precision across the installation is maintained within a few tenths of a millimeter. This was achieved through advanced simulations, an automated production pipeline, and specialized tools, including a press for precise adhesive bonding. The installation meets Oil & Gas industry standards, ensuring repeatability and long-term reliability.

A grayscale-video-based system allows designers to choreograph motion, with a custom 3D simulator providing real-time visualization. Motion data is processed through a dedicated protocol, updating the position of 18,000 motors every 20ms, with full-duplex communication enabling real-time diagnostics.
