For this invited competition entry, Piercy&Company created an expressive landscape hosting a collection of super-flexible translucent buildings to boost the health and economy of Walsall.

Walsall’s history is written in the landscape. Dredging canals, building bridges, quarrying limestone - Walsall is a quintessential English industrial town that has cultivated the local landscape to sustain and improve the life of its residents.

It remains an industrial town but the local economy is changing along with national and international market conditions. Economic difficulties are mirrored in the below average general health and well-being of the local population.

‘A working landscape’ proposes a hard-working, synthetic landscape supporting simple, flexible buildings to create a future-proof new quarter for Walsall inspired by the history of the town.
