Lina Apartment tells a story of transformation while preserving the original essence of the space. Originally designed in the early 1980s, the apartment is defined by its arched doorways, high ceilings, and organic lines, architectural features that contrast elegantly with the modernist layout of its time. The renovation sought to honor these elements by integrating contemporary additions in a way that feels both respectful and seamless.
A key highlight of the project is the curated selection of Brazilian furniture, with a particular emphasis on iconic pieces from the 1950s and 1960s that celebrate the country’s modernist heritage and cultural richness. Among them is the Sofá Mole by Sérgio Rodrigues, an emblematic design that finds new resonance within this space. Over time, the apartment has evolved into a thoughtful collection of furnishings that each carry stories, adding layers of memory and meaning.
The historical identity of the apartment served as a foundational narrative for the new design. Timeless materials, such as wooden flooring, linen, and leather, create a tactile link between past and present, while lush greenery introduces a natural softness that extends throughout the interior. Fixed panels were deliberately avoided in favor of a more flexible layout, using freestanding pieces that preserve the sense of openness and flow.
One of the primary requests from the residents was to transform the kitchen into a central gathering space for family and friends. Formerly enclosed, the kitchen was opened up to enhance natural light and improve circulation. A central island was added, serving as both a functional work area and a social hub, bringing a touch of modern sophistication to the heart of the home.
Every object in the apartment carries its own story, from inherited family heirlooms to souvenirs collected through travel, imbuing the space with authenticity and emotional resonance. More than a renovation, Lina Apartment is a delicate balance between preserving architectural history and embracing a contemporary way of living, reflecting both the cultural legacy of the home and the personal journey of its inhabitants.
