Appearing as single storey, in respect of neighbouring homes, the broad eave, made from compressed fibre cement, conceals a second level. Clad in a series of green hues and in varying widths, the ribbon-like eave considerably reduces the scale of this centre. The broad eaves which ‘snake’ around this building, cantilevering almost five metres, also create protected outdoor areas for the children. And as with the other childcare centres designed by Architecton, they allow the children to explore and enjoy spaces, both inside and out.
