Spread over four levels, the brief was not a case of recreating the past, but responding to it and providing contemporary office spaces that expand across entire floors, varying in area from 200 to 300 square metres.
Rather than try and mimic the past, there's a clear yet subtle delineation between the past and present - with new levels (including a rooftop terrace) expressed in steel and glass.
While the black glass creates a more recessive appearance from the well-travelled pedestrian street, it also diffuses the western sunlight and thoughtfully picks up on the black glass used for the nearby National Australia Bank building.
