Loft House x2 replaces cars with people. Collaboration between two inner-city neighbours saw their rear-lane parking spaces replaced with conjoined one-bedroom houses. On a footprint of just 35 square metres each, they will serve as both traveller’s accommodation, and a secondary family home.
The cultural shifts of urban life and the booming share economies of GoGet, Airbnb and the like, created the opportunity for this project, located in Sydney. Its big sustainable manoeuvre is to remove cars (1.5 space each) altogether from the site, which is close to local amenities and new transport options – both public and private. In this respect, it offers a blueprint for more sustainable urban density at the individual scale.
