Also known as “The Cornerstone Project,” Madison Putnam Housing was built using the design guidelines established by the Prospect Gardens infill prototype that RKTB developed in collaboration with CPC Resources, Inc. in response to the challenge of finding a means to utilize numerous vacant sites throughout New York City for affordable housing.

The community was engaged in the design of this Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) project through the city’s ULURP process.

Located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, Madison Putnam consists of 48 apartments in seven buildings of varying widths on four separate lots, totaling approximately 60,000 SF. Because of the size of the buildings only one stair is required for each. The stair, a key design element, creates a strong visual connection to the street promoting a sense of security. A shared recreation space was created in the common yard, the balance of which is divided among the ground-floor apartments.
