The main pavilion of the “LAT-MAD transatlantic urban Biennale” aims to become a reference point in the city and in the media, as a lighthouse or beacon, showing an iconic image and providing a unique meeting point.
Its objective is to become a virtual viewpoint or observatory, a viewer and speaker of the activities, works, data, agents or places that will participate in the event, giving visibility.
At the same time, it creates a chameleonic public space designed for the encounter, the exhibition, the debate and any other activity. A square, a park or an agora. Sometimes a workshop, sometimes a stage. The characteristics of the pavilion make it stand out on the topography of the surroundings and make it visible among the surrounding buildings. Its installation gives rise to a temporary improvement of the surrounding public space: a temporary landscape intervention that generates a surrounding park and stands that protect and shape a wide square.
CLOUD: Light and changing external enclosure, which creates wide interior spaces and can be extended or folded at the bottom to change the relationship between the interior and the exterior. Lightweight and resistant inflatable textile membrane.
STRUCTURE: The interior structure supports the whole pavilion, houses the accesses (stairs, elevators) and supports the technical equipment (projection, lighting, sound, etc.). Low cost scaffolding structure, fast execution, modular and detachable.
STAGE: Open space under the main structure, ideal for hosting events of all kinds. It may be more or less protected or open to the outside depending on the position of the inflatable envelope, adapting to the weather and activity.
AGORA: Public and outdoor square around the main structure. Delimited by a series of slopes and bleachers that will allow you to sit or lie down to contemplate the events or the pavilion itself.
PARK: Beyond the central agora, the environment will become a temporary park crossed by roads and equipped with urban furniture and small facilities (information booths, public toilets, etc.) integrated into the landscape.
ACTIVE ELEMENTS
The pavilion maximizes its ability to adapt to different activities, be it exhibitions, workshops, audiovisual installations, presentations or concerts. For this reason, it incorporates systems capable of changing its character, its content or its form, and also of transforming the urban space around it.
PROJECTIONS: From the central structure or section, spherical projections can be made on the entire interior, generating an immersive experience.
LIGHT AND SOUND: The structure also serves as support for lighting and sound systems to activate the public space and support the activities carried out in it.
TRANSFORMATION: The inflatable envelope can change shape, retracting at the bottom to protect or expose the stage and the scene.
DIGITAL INTERACTION: The character of citizen agora and cultural scene moves to the digital, allowing interactions between people, the pavilion and its contents.
SUSTAINABILITY
The pavilion, even though it is essentially an outdoor space, allows to reach comfort levels higher than those of any open space without consuming additional energy. It adapts continuously to the surrounding conditions, capturing solar radiation and protecting from the weather in some moments, and ventilating and dissipating heat in others.
The structural and construction system allows great efficiency in the use of energy and materials in production, minimizing transport and accelerating the assembly.
The membrane of the pavilion is constantly and adaptively transparent about its environmental conditions, consumption and impact throughout its life cycle.
At the end of its temporary life, the main structure can be disassembled and moved to other locations, or reused by components for other uses or recycled.
