One of the greatest challenges in architecture is achieving alignment with a previously established corporate and commercial image. It becomes even more demanding when working for a brand such as McDonald’s, deeply rooted in Guatemalan popular culture for more than forty years and with a permanently innovative trajectory.
The invitation to participate in the competition to design the 100th McDonald’s restaurant in Guatemala presented a unique challenge and opportunity for the Taller ACÁ team.
The design acknowledges the essential elements of the corporate image, integrating the colors and the brand’s personality in a volume and precise-form composition. This allows for the transformation of the building into an icon that celebrates the inauguration of the 100th McDonald’s in the country - a milestone for the corporation - and a landmark in the city.
The building’s design offers different experiences with space. It is designed to create transitions between exterior and interior, generating a permanent sense of discovery, and enhancing a playful relationship between the people and space, converging at the plaza for gathering and fun. The brand’s presence is carefully crafted through the creation of parametric design games where its image can be recognized and experienced through playing and its spatiality in the exterior plaza that integrates fluidly with the building.
The Mc100 is a proposal that also echoes the needs of the new generations that demand a more harmonious relationship with the environment and nature. Therefore, the landscaping had a relevant role in the project, incorporating plants and vegetation that not only balance the construction with nature, but also function as natural filters and improve people’s comfort.
The project is a unique architecture proposal that combines innovation, technology, and high-standard design for the enjoyment of adults and children.
