When Melbourne Flower Merchant moved into the ground floor of a prominent corner position in the heart of the CBD, they needed their new home to serve as both a working florist and an event space. Our brief was to transform this blank canvas of high ceilings, awkward proportions and prominent concrete columns into a multifunctional space that supported two very different sides to the business – bustling flower market by day, dramatic floral-themed event space by night.

We celebrated the height of the space and its raw concrete aesthetic by activating the upper half of the room with full-height shelves and lighting displays and introducing rich tones of navy and gold. A monumental concrete counter serves as an anchor for the space, and brass fittings, moody wallpaper and pendant lighting transform functional areas and under-utilised corners.

The aesthetic outcome was one of understated elegance that allowed the client’s floral displays to take centre stage whether functioning as a florist or a dramatic events space.
