Mid-Out Soul is the bar that aims to tailor people’s subconcious feeling by bending some visitors’ perception, pushing boundary beyond people’ past experiences. As the bar itself is located in the fashion shopping mall, the hidden bar in the tailor made store lookalike is not only an approach for fit-in the context, but also challenging some design aspects. The large perforated aluminum sheets are bended as the flexi form as the fabric, dressing the bar with heavy industrial material that is made soft. Also creating people curiosities through questioning past memories of the store typology, functions and traditional uses of the spaces as well as typically using of materials.
The very thin flexi façade blurs boundary between exterior and interior, whereas the main counterbar is connected between outside and inside which can be smoothly operated from back to the front as the large cutting tailored desk. Alongside the external alluminium curtain, layered vault-cut curtains are designed to not only create the fabric solid wall but also helps balancing internal acoustic system. Although many key areas are designated, there are some integral part left to be filled. Contemporary features such as LED screen is installed as the bar bulkhead, helps enhancing dynamic atmosphere with specific visual communication.
In contrast to the large construction material, the hanging clothes are used to scale down the whole room into the human scale. To carve sculpture out of everyday use material offers conversation to the project, hanging clothes create light and shadow through wavy line forming sillhoutte, allowing people to suggesting shape and form from the seen objects as well as tailoring souls out of their minds.
